Men Don’t Ask

Lyrics

Men Don’t Ask For Directions

“Men take more pains to mask then to mend”
Benjamin Franklin

On the street that I grew up on
And the school I use to go,
Boys would act like nothing hurt
Even though it wasn’t so,
And when I tried to open up
And say what it is I felt,
They’d laugh at me for being soft
Just because I asked for help-

Men don’t ask for directions
It means a man is weak-
To stop and ask someone for help
Just communicates defeat.

And whenever dad got lost somewhere
And didn’t know where to go,
He’d keep on going driving along
Even though he didn’t know,
And if mom suggested to stop somewhere
And ask someone the way,
He’d look at her with great disgust
And angrily he’d say-

Men don’t ask for directions
It means a man is weak-
To stop and ask someone for help
Just communicates defeat.

Bridge:
Rather than have to admit their wrong
That a request for help would take
Men would rather hide with pride
Than admit they made a mistake-

Now many years have passed since then
Still many men I meet,
Still often act like little boys
Whenever they compete
Fearing still those simple words
“I really just don’t know”
They just keep on going driving along
Living by the code-

Men don’t ask for directions
It means a man is weak-
To stop and ask someone for help
Just communicates defeat.
